She's Up To No Good

Told in a dual timeline, this is a fun, fast family saga with a splash of romance. I really enjoyed the pace of the dual timeline, the dynamic yet real characters, and the sassy octogenarian. The references to the Jewish-Puerto Rican conflicts in Massachusetts in the past timeline were really intriguing as well. Overall, a good summer read!  

I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai

5 Stars!

This psychological thriller is a mix of true crime podcast, boarding school murder, past and present coming together. It kept me guessing until the end. This is also an example of using second person POV effectively. Makkai also adds some subtle social commentary on the current obsession we have with true crime.

The Devotion to Suspect X

I am obsessed with this entire series. The translation is great. The twists and turns are innovative and unexpected. And I love the writing style. Although these do focus on a recuring detective, each story also includes the villain's perspective which is really well done - and sometimes the reader doesn't even realize it is the villain until the end!

I picked up this speculative fiction novel after I heard about it on all the book podcasts I listen to. I don't usually like dystopian fiction, but this one had me thinking about the What Ifs for... well, I'm still thinking about them! Imagine if we were all given a sealed box that contained a string the length of our lives. Would you open it?
